SAL #2 Crown of Thorns

It’s been three weeks since our last update and we have had multiple snow storms even blizzards in that time so boy did I get a lot done on my current project!

Here is where I left off last time which was my first post on this WIP:

And here is Jesus’s haunting face which is coming through beautifully:

It’s been an interesting experience working on this project. I had some trouble with knotting and misplaced stitches which led to some rip outs but once I started on His eyes is was like I was building him from bone structure to finally flesh. I should have taken a photo of that in-between process to show you.

I have never stitched a human face like this before.

Hopefully we won’t have any more blizzards for a while but I didn’t mind get stuck in the house stitching!

In our Stitch-a-long group we blog our progress every three weeks. If you are interested in joining our group please contact Avis, the first name in the contacts below. And don’t forget to check out the other member’s blogs and the projects they are working on by clicking their links. You’ll be amazed at the talent. Welcome to new members Jocelyn and Carmela!

See you again in three weeks! -MM

Welcome to my Blog! My world is my husband and son (soon to be moving into his own home) and my step-children (fully grown) and our two cats who are definitely ying and yang. My day job is as Deputy Clerk of my home town in Western, NY but when I get home I have two side gigs, one as a professional private baker, and two, as an Etsy shop owner selling vintage and antique dishes and accessories. I have been gardening and growing my own food since my grandfather taught me at the ripe old age of 5. I stitch, I bake, I grow food, I can and preserve, I grocery shop to save money and eat well and boy do I have massive to-do lists. I hope you enjoy my day to day writings.

  1. That really is excellent progress. In the past, I have worked on a monochrome portrait of my husband in shades of black and grey. It’s surprising how much a stitch out of place in the wrong colour shows up when the colour palette is so limited, but as your work demonstrates, it does produce spectacular results.

  2. This will indeed be a beautiful piece when it’s complete. Good on you for accepting the challenge to stitch it! And well done on your other challenge as well. 🙂

  3. Thanks for the welcome. Wow, this face is emerging and is so beautifully rendered in stitches. What a job you are doing!!

  4. Great progress, and it looks so beautiful! I have a chart for a “greenscale” close-up of the Statue of Liberty’s face but always felt it would be too hard to do so many close-color stitch changes. This will be magnificent when you finish it!

  5. My goodness. You’ve certainly made good use of your time! I imagine this is quite difficult to stitch, but it is looking incredible. It is indeed a very haunting image.
