SAL – Project Fraktur Hex #1

This is my first post on my newest project, Modern Folk Embroidery’s Fraktur Hex.

The original design photo showed the entire project stitched in blue.

I knew I would get bored only stitching the same color so I have switched up the color scheme.

Just the single outside border was 1072 stitches! It’s a very big project.

I have gotten a lot done in 3 weeks. Here is where I ended last night.

I can’t wait to watch this project develop and so far I am really liking the colors. Though I am still not sure of the pink.

Please visit the other members’ blogs to see what they are working on. I am going to check them out now!

See you in three weeks! -MM

Welcome to my Blog! My world is my husband and son (soon to be moving into his own home) and my step-children (fully grown) and our two cats who are definitely ying and yang. My day job is as Deputy Clerk of my home town in Western, NY but when I get home I have two side gigs, one as a professional private baker, and two, as an Etsy shop owner selling vintage and antique dishes and accessories. I have been gardening and growing my own food since my grandfather taught me at the ripe old age of 5. I stitch, I bake, I grow food, I can and preserve, I grocery shop to save money and eat well and boy do I have massive to-do lists. I hope you enjoy my day to day writings.

  1. Phew — I’m with the others, very brave to stitch the outline first! I think I would have lost my mind from all the counting. Looking forward to seeing this project grow, and I love that you’re changing the monochromatic design!

    1. It is huge and I am stitching it without a hoop or loom because I dont want it hopelessly wrinkled. It’s my biggest challenge yet because I have never stitched on anything other than 16 ct aida and this is 28 count linen 🤦‍♀️

      1. I love stitching on linen. Once you get used to it, I bet you’ll prefer it. It looks so much nicer and I think the feel of it as you’re stitching is definitely nicer, especially if you’re not using a frame.

  2. Beautiful project and such a great start! I bet you were so happy that border matched up 🙂 The shade of blue is so lovely. Looking forward to seeing this one grow!

  3. Oh, how pretty! It is going to be a lovely piece. I don’t do counted cross stitch, so I don’t know if this would work…but could you add a small amount of a darker pink to the underparts of the petal? Or carry the green just up the side of the base of the petal?

  4. I couldn’t find where to leave a comment on your 20 for 20 post (duh) which I found interesting reading. I love hearing about the daily life that we lead. You have wonderful goals and seem to accomplish so much really. But to your piece…that’s a lot of stitches and all of them perfect! What thread count is the linen?
