Getting Rid of our Junk Week 5 and 6 of 54

For week 5, I pulled a Queen which means 50 items and because I was so late with week 5 I pulled week 6 along with it and got a 2.

Each week I try to pick an area to declutter and my husband and son brought up this week’s area. My son was commenting that he couldn’t sit on one side of the couch because it was filled with blankets and pillows that we use to snuggle up with on cold days. My husband brought up that we have a blanket chest right in the living room we could store the blankets and pillows in but it’s full of puzzles, CD’s, VHS tapes, DVDs, magazines and fabric. I had to laugh because he said maybe I should use the blanket and pillow predicament as this week’s decluttering project.

It took me a few days to have some time to get to it but I did just that this morning. I hauled everything out of the chest and cleaned and organized what I put back in. I bagged up all the puzzles but two, the magazines, most of the CD’s and threw out some of the VHS and a few odds and ends.

After folding the blankets on the couch and putting them and the pillows away…look! We can sit on the couch now!

I love this game. I have been wanting to clean out that chest for years!

For the 2 card I pulled this week I am getting rid of these two bottles. A few years ago I was obsessed with making fruit cordials and picked these two up at a flea market. I made a lot of cordial but never liked these two bottles so in the rummage sale they go!

For week 7 I pulled a Jack. So 25 more items will be going out the door this next week. I’ll report back after I figure out what area I want to attack next.

How are you doing with your decluttering? Addictive isn’t it? -MM

Welcome to my Blog! My world is my husband and son (soon to be moving into his own home) and my step-children (fully grown) and our two cats who are definitely ying and yang. My day job is as Deputy Clerk of my home town in Western, NY but when I get home I have two side gigs, one as a professional private baker, and two, as an Etsy shop owner selling vintage and antique dishes and accessories. I have been gardening and growing my own food since my grandfather taught me at the ripe old age of 5. I stitch, I bake, I grow food, I can and preserve, I grocery shop to save money and eat well and boy do I have massive to-do lists. I hope you enjoy my day to day writings.

  1. Every time you go past that chest you will have the little smile that shows your satisfaction!
I pulled another jack. That’s 100 things gone from the house. You wouldn’t notice any difference, but like your chest, I know that there are fewer things cluttering up the place. My next number is 6, and I already know that I am going to tackle old X-rays. My main job is to find out where I can recycle them.

  2. Yay for you! First week I pulled a Q and ended up with over 150 phone photos deleted! Second week I pulled an 8 and deleted 16 computer files! (Yes there’s a numeric relationship). This week is week 3 and I pulled a 7…not sure what to purge yet, but because it’s a prime number, I thought I’d make the focus something ‘special’.
    Love this!

      1. I ended up recycling 7 boxes…not in the traditional sense of folding and placing in the recycling bin, or in putting ‘special’ boxes in the attic for if/whenever we move, tho. Instead of bagging stuff for Salvation Army (generic name for other type of stores) I boxed it up – this time using 2 boxes, then donated it; instead of bagging groceries/homecooked food to our next-door neighbor, I boxed it up – 2 smaller boxes, then delivered it. I boxed up a set of books I’ve been meaning to mail to a friend in one box I unearthed that was perfect for that usage…I’ve yet to send them, but it’s one step closer to my biting the bullet and mailing the darn things despite the high costs of postage! 🙂
I then repackaged a few items remaining from purges I decided to keep for storage with the remaining (perfectly sized from my stash of ‘good boxes’) 2 boxes…
Tuesday I pulled a 3 – and I haven’t a clue right now what I’ll do with this prime number! HA! Suggestions?
        😉

  3. Well done you! My big clean up will start with summer lessons. I want to devote Mondays to deep cleaning and then the garden, which should keep us ship shape!
