Grocery Shopping and Meal Planning 2024 Week 8 of 52

Week 7 was a better week in the meal dept. Although we were still dealing with Scott’s Dad escaping the senior living facility multiple times, we still managed to eat pretty well. Dad even stayed with us for four days while we got his new home ready closer to us.

I made a big batch of our favorite Italian wedding soup, which we ate all week for lunches, crockpot meatloaf, tacos, and a pork roast. The crockpot got a lot of use!

I shopped on Sunday and spent $110.66. The bulk of my shopping was done at the Marketplace, but I also picked up a few things at Wegmans and Tops and I got 3 dozen eggs from Farm Guy.

With all of this on-the-go eating it’s been pretty tough to not eat crap. Convenience foods are just that. Convenient!

I have been doing a lot of recipe scrolling for Mediterranean based meals and have come up with a plan for breakfasts this week. I’ll share next week.

Total spent on groceries so far in 2024 – $803.60

How often do you all eat fast food? I don’t think I ate any fast food last week which is a win! Until next week- MM

Welcome to my Blog! My world is my husband and son (soon to be moving into his own home) and my step-children (fully grown) and our two cats who are definitely ying and yang. My day job is as Deputy Clerk of my home town in Western, NY but when I get home I have two side gigs, one as a professional private baker, and two, as an Etsy shop owner selling vintage and antique dishes and accessories. I have been gardening and growing my own food since my grandfather taught me at the ripe old age of 5. I stitch, I bake, I grow food, I can and preserve, I grocery shop to save money and eat well and boy do I have massive to-do lists. I hope you enjoy my day to day writings.

  1. Hectic weeks are so rough! We went to Culver’s on Saturday, and if and when we go again, I think I will ask for the senior discount! Earlier this month we used a gift card at a local restaurant, and had breakfast, but it was a huge disappointment…Casa Reeves does a much better job!!!😂👩🏻‍🍳

  2. Although we get takeout meals a few days a week, we rarely eat fast food. We recently resorted to burgers as we traveled to our daughter’s home 4 hours away, but I would say that we get fast food maybe 3 or 4 times a year. I am amazed at how frugal you are with groceries. Also, I have yet to find crockpot meals that we really like and that I would make again.

    1. Cathie if you like meatloaf try it in the crockpot. We will never go back to meatloaf in the oven. It comes out so tender! I just press the mix right into the bottom of the crock and let it cook for a couple of hours. No additional liquid is needed. I also do chicken breast in the crockpot with a quart jar of homemade sweet chili sauce added. It comes out like pulled chicken. Sweet and tender. I have both meals with mashed potatoes and a veggie.

  3. That looks really nice and like money well spent for 3-4 people, we spend on average 100£ a week for two, prices are quite high here. Fast food is probably something I have twice a year at best, but takeaway might be one or twice a month. We try to eat home cooked mostly because they’re the healthier option and… What we don’t do enough of is bulk cooking, our fridge is very small so we’re limited. Oh I wish for a bigger kitchen 😂
