What We Ate and How Much We Spent on Groceries – Week 3 of 52

Week 3 went way better than week 2. I was finally on the mend from being sick for two weeks straight and felt more like cooking! Even though I said I wasn’t going to spend a lot at the grocery store there were a few things I saw in the weekly ad that I couldn’t pass up on so I stocked up.

Thomas’s Bagels were on sale this week at $3.50 for a 6pk which was over a $1.50 savings so I bought four packages and froze three of them. That will last us a few weeks. Then they had mega packs of 90/10 ground beef on sale for $4.99/lb so I picked up a 5.5/lb pack for $27.45 and vacuum sealed it all into five more manageable packages and stuck those in the freezer too.

I spent a total of $90.77

We ate much better this week! Chicken Kiev, loaded baked potatoes, taco salads, potato bacon soup, and grilled pork tenderloin with butternut squash. Have I ever posted my homemade teriyaki sauce recipe? It’s easy and I use it on everything!

Total this week $90.77
Grand total for the year $243.12

With these egg prices we might have to get us some chickens! Do any of you have chickens?

See you next week! -MM

Welcome to my Blog! My world is my husband and son (soon to be moving into his own home) and my step-children (fully grown) and our two cats who are definitely ying and yang. My day job is as Deputy Clerk of my home town in Western, NY but when I get home I have two side gigs, one as a professional private baker, and two, as an Etsy shop owner selling vintage and antique dishes and accessories. I have been gardening and growing my own food since my grandfather taught me at the ripe old age of 5. I stitch, I bake, I grow food, I can and preserve, I grocery shop to save money and eat well and boy do I have massive to-do lists. I hope you enjoy my day to day writings.

  1. We have chickens in our garage. If you can find someone local selling pallets that would be ideal, but it you have to order them, do it soon, because hatcheries have been devastated by this avian flu, and the powers that be killing entire flocks because of a pcp test (the same one that gave so many erroneous results during the first round of covid.)

  2. We have 3 chickens and they provide plenty of eggs for the 2 of us. We plan to add at least 6 more this spring to be able to share eggs with family & neighbors.
