I have given myself a new challenge in the meal dept. Only spend $45 one week and $90 the next, then $45 then $90. I am going to try to stay within a strict budget for the next few months because I NEED to pay off that credit card. I can’t stand it anymore.
So I figure it will be fun to try these amounts to see what I can come up with. Why $45 and $90? Why not? It just sort of popped into my head. I love a good challenge!
We stocked up pretty well last week spending $160 so it will be as good a time as any to start this.
This week I have the challenge of only spending $45. After figuring out what I wanted for dinners for the week, I spent $43.11 and this is what I bought:
Yep, this is it. I am glad I have $90 to spend next week because I will need coffee and creamer by then, lol.
I’ll report back what I came up with.
Total spent on groceries so far in 2024 – $1840.29
Question of the week: could you spend only $45 on groceries?
Until next week- MM
I don’t think I could do $45 but I think I could scale down if I menu planned. Hmmm I may just have to try a challenge like this myself 🙂

I guess the key is to start with a well-stocked pantry. I haven’t posted yet on my last two weeks but I went way over for Memorial Day weekend. The sales were just too good to pass up. Hellman’s Mayo for $2.99?? I absolutely stocked up with prices like that.

Well done Mary Margaret. Yes, we could spend just $45, but that’s because we can live out of our pantry…which is not exactly your run of the mill pantry, so not really fair.

That’s what we need to stress. Having an ever-stocked pantry and actually using food up is critical with the food prices right now. And sometimes it’s just fine to eat a bowl of cereal for dinner. When I hear some friend’s grocery bills are $250+ I am suspecting there is a LOT of convenience foods and drinks in that bill. Grocery stores have entire rows and coolers full of drinks now and that will kill any grocery budget.
