Week 6 – What We are Eating and How Much We Spent on Groceries 2022

After only spending $86 last week on groceries I made up for it this week. I spent $159.02 from the store and $35.79 from Misfits market and $15 from the farmer up the street for eggs. I still need to get salmon from another store so well over $200 this week for groceries.

The most expensive things I bought were 6 dozen eggs for a total of $18, a gallon of vegetable oil at $10.99 and Folgers coffee and French vanilla creamer for $7.99 each. (We use a ton of creamer).

The gallon of oil and eggs were necessary because I have been getting a lot of cake orders, which is good so those are more or less a business expense and I was asked if I would be willing to cook two meals a week for a friend who had surgery last week and I said yes to that too so some of the expense is for that.

On the menu this week:

Dinners: Home made mac and cheese, salmon and wild rice, flatbread pizzas, beef stew, chicken stir-fry and fully loaded grilled burgers.

For breakfasts: English muffins (they were on sale BOGO), oatmeal with fruit, toast and eggs and chocolate chip, coconut, banana bread yum!

After spending so much this week I really can’t wait to get my garden started again so I can get these high priced shopping trips down in cost! What are you cooking this week? -MM

  1. It’s quite painful some weeks isn’t it? This week we are having green Chile beef burritos with retried beans, pizza, baked chicken with baby carrots and potatoes, waffles and sausage, and some sort of pasta dish. Lunch is leftovers and breakfast is cereal most days since DH seldom eats breakfast. We got the baby carrots on sale this week, or we would be having regular ones!

      1. It really depends Mary Margaret. Because of the freezers and canning, we have the ability to shop the sales. If chicken is .97/pound, we will buy 20 pounds and freeze or can it. So the bill often has nothing to do with what we actually eat that week. Saturday we bought 3 pounds of grapes, 2 gallons of milk, 2 pounds of butter, 2 1.5 quarts of ice cream and hamburger buns. That was about $20, because everything was on sale. Next week might be totally different!
