At the beginning of 2024 I said to my husband, buckle up it’s going to be a tough year! And it was. 2024 started awful and didn’t get much better until sometime in November.
I am optimistic for 2025. I pray every day that we have more good days than bad. Isn’t that what we all want?
I do have quite a few goals I want to get accomplished this year, God willing. Below is the list.
- Home repairs professionally done – New back door and cut down all sumac in the hedgerow.
- Home projects done by us – Paint everything in the kitchen and revamp some of said kitchen.
- Learn to sew – I am a stitcher but have never learned to properly sew with a sewing machine. I asked for one for Christmas and I got one! This goal should be interesting.
- Read all of the books I got from the Literary bookclub. This is a subscription based service that sends you a box of goodies and a book from the classics genre each quarter. I signed-up and received my boxes and only finished one. I have at least 3 boxes to get finished.
- Add my husband to all of our household bills and finally change my name to my new married name instead of my old married name (it’s only been 15 years lol). This has been pure laziness on my part but sometimes when you try to change these things it creates other issues but I am committed to doing this this year.
- Try 10 of my granny’s recipes from her stash. Looking forward to this!
- Go to three cultured events this year like a concert, play, musical, etc.
- Wear all 18 dresses I have at least once this year. Yes, some people are obsessed with shoes, I on the other hand am obsessed with dresses. I plan on wearing every dress I own at least once this year and then I will make the decision at the end of the year to get rid of some of them. I don’t need 18 dresses!
- Get my mom and son moved into their new homes and re-arrange our own home now that the kid will be on his own. This should have happened last year but the builders of my mom’s new patio home took forever! Now we are more than a year and a half later so it should be soon!
- Try 10 recipes off the internet. There are a few accounts I follow on Instagram and I want to see if their recipes are really as good as they say they are.
- Do some continuing education for cake decorating technique for myself. I want to learn some new trends and flower piping.
- Pay off $10,000 in credit card debt.
- Get that fruit garden installed this year that I wanted last year. Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, you get the picture.
I know it’s a lot and yes it may not all get done but we all have to set goals right? I’ll update on Sundays what I have accomplished each week. Have you set any goals for the new year? – MM

Happy new year!! Wow I really love some of your goals. Learning how to sew especially, I hope that’s going to be great fun!! I’ve set myself goals as well though mostly regarding kits or UFOs as I have existing other goals I keep carrying over year after year. I keep meaning to draw but I don’t, I code for my game maybe once every 8 weeks haha. Crafting Kits are easier as there’s supplies, instructions and a clear end goal. I did a big tidy of my room however which is why I’ve decided I need to more opportunities to use supplies up!

I am probably most excited about learning to sew. But I am torn whether I want to take an official class or watch YouTube videos for Instruction

I’ve learned as a tween with my mother’s help (also fairly novice back then) and I would say while youtube is helpful to learn certain things, there’s no replacing a person when it comes to helping with gestures, tension andguiding the fabric or pinning. YouTube can’t help you with mistakes or when you struggle with certain fabrics !!

So you recommend an in-person class?

Love all your goals especially the cooking ones 🙂 I sew and use a machine and I used you tube for everything from learning to clean my machine to tension issues etc. You just need to shop around until you find the right video and instructor you like/can learn from. I did take my machine in once when I was having an issue(can’t remember what that was) to my local sewing machine and they looked at the machine and fixed it right there no charge and I learned a few little tips too. I’d try you tube first before spending money on a class. I know you can figure out most everything that way 🙂

Thank you Sharon! I appreciate that feedback. I’ll give it a try.

While I think 1-2 beginners lessons could be helpful to build confidence, Sharon isn’t wrong, there’s no harm in trying on your own first. You may find you’re perfectly capable. Best of luck!
